GNCC Bike Race Report
FMF Steele Creek GNCC

By Charles Ford

The picturesque Steele Creek campground was a most enjoyable setting for the GNCC families due to the unseasonably warm weather. With Walker Fowler electing to miss this event to attend a school outing the door was left wide open for another rider to rise to the top overall spot. The call was answered by Bostic, NC rider Seth Murray. Seth goes into the books as being (to the best of my recollection) the first rider to put a four stroke at the top of the mini ranks. The first GNCC win for the 150F. Second place in the 14-15 Big Wheel class was Morgan Moss of Hayesville, NC, third went to Gregory Funk of Clinton, OH, fourth was Cody Mummert of Glenville, PA and the fifth place rider was Larry Maltba of Marion, NC.

Zack Nolan took top honors in the 12-13 Big Wheel class over the hard charging Steward Baylor. The third place rider was William Dickson of Lenoir, NC. Lake Lynn, PA rider A.J. Stewart overcame some adversity in the form of a hard blow to his foot to take home fourth. Derrick Shaw from Buckhannon, WV put in another consistent ride finishing fifth.

McKinnon Welborn from Boonville, NC won again in the 14-15 85 class (get the broom- he may be looking to sweep the series). Wil Coleman from Greenville, SC was second, Cody Carr from New Marshville, OH third, Wylie Ford from West Union, WV fourth and Wesley Hills from South Bloomingville, OH was fifth.

Layne Michael continued his winning ways on the 12-13 85cc class after an early challenge from Chris Meadows who would later suffer bike issues. Dakota Hacker from Hamilton, OH was second, Trevor Barrett third, Tyler Braniff from Terra Alta, WV earned fourth and Zach Hayes of Sumten, SC was fifth.

There was a lot of racing history on the line in the 7-11 85cc class as Tyler McSwain and Aaron Plessinger battled with McSwain putting in a dominant ride and Plessinger ending up second. Tegan Temple continued his consistency with a third place ride. Fourth place was Goodwind, NC rider Dillon Eason and fifth went home to Williamson, GA with Matt Turner.

The 10-11 65cc class seems to have a new star as Lynnville, IN rider Jake Froman won again. Clay Alfrey from Middletown, OH gave him a strong challenge for the entire race. Another Ohio rider Tristian Stumbo was third, Austin Lee of Bedford, IN was fourth and Londonberry, OH rider Ryan Slopko was fifth.

Grant Baylor put in his third winning ride in three tries in the 7-9 65cc class. His 48 th place overall finish out of 156 starters is evidence of the level at which he is riding. Second place rider Dalton Hall is from Connellys Springs, NC. Jonathan Johnson of Landrum, SC was third, Mark Jones from Boomer, NC was fourth and Anthony Stone took fifth back home to Reedsville, WV.
