Changes from the 288 GNCC Pro Rulebook are indicated in Red.
Update: January 6, 2009: The Bike XC2 Pro Lites Class will be held to the previous 250cc four-stroke and 125cc two-stroke limit.
A. GENERAL:
1. There will be two Pro Bike classes and a Pro and a Pro Am ATV class, as follows:

2. The Motorcycle Pro race will be a minimum 2:45 - 3 hour race. The ATV Pro race will be a 2 hour race.
3. Each OEM will be issued one Pit Vehicle permit to accommodate VIP's and sponsors. The vehicle can be used throughout the weekend, and can be taken to and from the start area to haul tools, tires, parts, etc... However, it cannot be used by mechanics or team staff DURING the race, or for VIPs to go point to point along the course to signal or otherwise assist racers. No materials that can be used for assistance in any manner for a racer on the course can be hauled in the pit vehicle at any time during the event after the start. This includes, but is not limited to, eyewear, tools, parts, signs, pit boards or any materials the promoter feels can be used for assistance. Otherwise, pit riding is prohibited.
4. Events may be conducted regardless of weather conditions. In the event of rain or other unfavorable conditions, it may be necessary to alter the order of the event schedule, including, but not limited to, adjusting the length of the race or delaying or stopping the program completely. Should a delay occur, every effort will be made to resume the schedule in a timely fashion if conditions significantly improve.
B. RACE NUMBERS:
1. The following number plate color codes are required:
XC1 Red Plates White Numbers
XC2 Green Plates White Numbers
XC1 Color Code: Red - PMS 032 C
XC2 Color Code: Green - PMS 354 C
2. Front plate numbers must be a minimum of 5.5" H. The current GNCCRacing.com logo must be displayed across the top of the front plate. At minimum, the sticker will be 1" H x 8" W and is provided by GNCC Racing.
Only numbers and the approved GNCC Racing logo are permitted on the front number plates. Digital logo files may be requested from GNCC Racing for the purpose of third party production of number plates with the official GNCC Racing logo.
3. Side plate numbers must be a minimum of 3" H. The remaining space may be used for rider sponsor signage.
4. Race numbers must be clearly visible on the rider's back.
5. ATV machines must have a number plate with rider number mounted on the rear grab bar.
C. RIDER ELIGIBILITY AND CLASSIFICATION:
1. XC1 (Bikes): The following riders are required to race XC1:
a. Top 10 overall riders from previous year's GNCC, unless eligible for an age class; Provided, however, that XC2 riders earning a top 10 overall may remain in the XC2 class for one additional year;
b. Top five overall riders from previous year's AMA National Enduro, National Hare Scrambles, National Hare & Hound, EnduroCross, SCORE or WORCS series;
c. Riders earning a gold medal during the previous three years at the ISDE (if 25 years or older), unless eligible for an age class;
d. International riders currently holding a top 3 ranking in their home country's national championship of similar type event;
e. Current AMA Pro Motocross License holders who qualified for a National Motocross in the 450 class or Supercross in the Motocross class in the current year; or
f. By promoter discretion.
g. Riders placing 11-25 overall the previous year are eligible, but not required to race XC1.
2. XC2 Lites (Bikes): The following riders are eligible, but not required, to race XC2 Lites:
a. Riders placing 11-50 overall the previous year;
b. "A" Class Champions; or
c. By promoter discretion.
d. Former GNCC, WORCS, Enduro, Hare Scrambles, Hare & Hound or EnduroCross national champions in the past 10 years are not eligible for the XC2 class.
3. XC1 Pro (ATV): The following riders are required to race XC1 Pro:
a. Top 10 overall riders from previous year's GNCC, unless eligible for an age class; Provided, however, that XC2 riders earning a top 10 overall may remain in the XC2 class for one additional year;
b. Top five overall riders from previous year's AMA Pro ATV, WORCS; or
c. By promoter discretion.
d. Riders placing 11-25 overall the previous year are eligible, but not required to race XC1.
4. XC2 Pro Am (ATV): The following riders are eligible, but not required, to race XC2 Pro Am:
a. Riders placing 11-50 overall the previous year;
b. "A" Class Champions;
c. Top five overall riders from previous year's ATVA, WORCS Pro-Am classes; or
d. By promoter discretion.
e. Former GNCC, WORCS, or AMA Pro Motocross national champions in the past 5 years are not eligible for the XC2 class.
D. MACHINE ELIGIBILITY AND CLASSIFICATION:
1. XC1 Pro (Bikes): (122cc-Open 2/4 Stroke).
2. XC2 Lites (Bikes): (122-250cc 4 Stroke, 122-125cc 2 Stroke).
3. XC1 and XC2 (ATV): (0-450cc) Fuel tanks are limited to a 4-gallon maximum capacity. Production models only: OEM motor and matching frame combination model required. Frame geometry must remain as designed by the OEM, including all suspension pivot points. Engine modifications, frame reinforcements, and aftermarket A-arms, swing-arms and suspension are permitted.
4. All machines must have silencers. Machines may be tested by officials any time prior to, during or after the event.
5. All machines must have a working kill switch (bikes) or tether cord (ATV).
6. No horns, bells or other sound devices are permitted on machines.
7. Machine sound level cannot exceed 99 dbs.
8. XC1 and XC2 machines (both Motorcycle and ATV) are excluded from the claiming rule as set forth in AMA Rules.
9. The AMA homologation requirements do not apply to XC1 or XC2 machines (Motorcycle or ATV).
E. REGISTRATION PROCEDURE:
1. Racers (Motorcycle and ATV) may only compete in one race per event.
2. Riders must register for the race before riding their machine anywhere, may not exceed 1st gear idle when traveling to/from their pit area and must always wear a helmet. Warm-up riding is limited to the start area and only after an official has given permission and the rider has registered for the event.
3. Entry Fees: XC1: $100 entry fee; top-10 purse.
XC2: $50 entry fee; top-5 purse.
4. Riders must first obtain a transponder. Units can be purchased/rented at each event. For best results, mount the unit on the front fender.
5. At registration, riders will key in their transponder unit number and will receive a bar code and a colored helmet tag. Bar Code Scoring will be the emergency back-up scoring system. Place the bar code on the lower left chin side of the helmet; place the colored helmet tag on the back of the helmet. Helmet tags may not be trimmed less than 3".
6. All machines and rider helmets must be taken through Tech Inspection prior to racing for the purpose of inspecting transponder functioning, barcode placement, number assignment and contingency eligibility. Safety equipment and machine eligibility are the sole responsibility of the rider.
START PROCEDURE:
1. The XC2 class will select their starting positions immediately after the start of the 10 a.m. amateur race. Place markers will be provided for this purpose. Riders must be prepared to line up when called, or risk losing their start position choice.
2. The Start Horn will signal that the XC1 Class will line up in 15 minutes. Riders must be prepared to line up when called, or risk losing their start position choice.
3. The XC1 class will start on the front row; the XC2 class will start from the second row.
4. Start positions for the first race only will be determined by the top 10 finishers from the previous year's class standings. For the balance of the series, the top 10 in class point standings will get the first 10 start picks. Riders will draw for remaining positions at the time of registration. Riders must quickly make their start selection.
5. The Riders Meeting will be conducted on the Starting Line after the XC1 Pro start position selection. All riders must attend riders meeting.
6. Upon the official's signal, all persons must clear the area in front of the X1 Pro Class for opening ceremonies.
7. GNCC is a dead engine start. When the track is cleared for the start:
a. The blue flag will signal all riders to shut down their engines.
b. 30 seconds later the Referee will extend his arm to signal "10 Seconds" before the start of the race. At the "10 Seconds" signal, all crewmembers must step behind the riders.
c. Between 8 and 10 seconds, the green flag will be thrown, signaling the start of the race.
8. Riders starting their machines prior to the green flag signal or taking off with the wrong row will be penalized.
9. Riders missing the start of their class must enter the racecourse at the starting line and complete the start chute.
10. The machine a rider leaves the starting line on is the official machine of the rider for that event and may not be switched during the event.
11. ATV riders are required to start the event with their tether cord properly affixed.
G. THE COURSE:
1. A GNCC course may include trails, footpaths, roads, hills, motocross tracks or any type of terrain which can be negotiated by a motorcycle or ATV.
2. XC1 Pro and XC2 Pro Lites Bikes are prohibited from inspecting the race course prior to bike race day. XC1 Pro and XC2 Pro Am ATV are permitted to inspect the course the day before the race between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. only. This is a probationary provision subject to revocation.
3. Marking, cutting, tampering with or otherwise changing the course in any manner is strictly prohibited. Course modifications may only be made by an official.
4. No one, except officials and riders officially entered, may ride on the race course at any time during the event.
5. Riders will be disqualified for riding a GNCC course during the 7 days prior to the first day of the event.
H. ON TRACK REGULATIONS:
1. Riders must remain on the marked course. The marked course is within 25 feet of race arrows. However, riders must stay within the confines of the following markers: double arrows posted on both sides of the trail, ribbons, signs, stakes, hay bales, barrels, motocross track, grass track, etc..
2. Riders encountering a traffic jam or bottleneck may not go more than 25 feet off the course to get around the bottleneck only. The rider must re-enter the course as soon as possible, and upon approaching this section the next lap, must ride the original arrowed section if the track is clear. If the original marking devices are knocked down, the rider must stay on the original marked course. A "bottleneck" is a section of the track that becomes impassable for any reason, with the exception of check points.
3. Riders may not cut to the inside of a white pole corner marker.
4. If a rider leaves the course for any reason he must re-enter where he left.
5. With the exception of fueling, riders may make repairs and otherwise receive mechanical assistance anywhere along the course from anyone. All such repairs and assistance must be made without causing interference with other riders and in a suitable area off the racetrack.
6. Riders must fuel in their designated Pro Pit area. In the event a rider runs completely out of fuel, he may obtain fuel outside his designated Pro Pit area sufficient only enough to allow him to return to his designated Pro Pit area for re-fueling.
7. Riders may not carry gasoline anywhere except inside the machine's fuel tank.
8. Radios are permitted between pit crew members, but not with or between riders.
9. Reckless riding. No rider may ride in such a manner as to endanger life or limb of other riders, officials or the public. Riders will be penalized for the reckless operation of their machine, including, but not limited to, the deliberate ramming, blocking or intentional contact with another rider, or for running into an official.
10. Team Tactics are prohibited, and include, but are not limited to: blocking, allowing another rider to pass in order to affect the outcome of the race, or exchanging machines in order for another rider to continue the race. Riders involved will be penalized.
11. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Persons whose appearance, conduct, associations or affiliations, on or off the track, deemed not conducive to the best interest of this sport or who exhibit conduct which is inappropriate, offensive, abrasive or in bad taste, may be excluded or suspended from GNCC at the discretion of the Race Director.
Participants engaged in any event, public appearance, media activity or any other situation relating to their participation in the series must refrain from intentional physical contact with any participant, inappropriate or profane language, fraud and unsportsmanlike behavior. At the sole discretion of GNCC, participants who exhibit behaviors deemed inappropriate or unsportsmanlike, prejudicial or detrimental to the best interests of the sport, or detract from the enjoyment, appreciation or interests of the fans, sponsors or other supporters of the sport, may be penalized by monetary fine, docking of championship points, or both. Such penalties are not subject to protest or appeal.
I. MECHANICS AND PRO PIT AREA:
1. Riders are responsible for the actions of their entire pit crew.
2. Pit areas must be maintained in a clean and professional manner. Mechanics and pit crew members must present a clean and neat appearance. Mechanics are encouraged to be in uniform designating a rider or team. All other persons in the pro pits must dress appropriately.
3. Alcohol is prohibited in the pro pits during pro racing.
4. Unleashed pets are prohibited in the pro pits during pro racing.
5. Smoking is prohibited in the pro pits during pro racing.
SCORING:
1. Transponder scoring is the official scoring procedure for GNCC.
2. There will be three checkpoints throughout the race course: One at the Finish Line and two Outpost checkpoints. Riders must come to a complete stop at the Finish Line checkpoint, but not at the Outpost checkpoints.
3. Checkpoints will be "No Passing" zones. The section from the Finish Line to the scoring area is a "No Passing" zone. In addition, checkpoints will be marked with double arrows.
4. Riders may not be serviced or pitted in the area between the Finish Line and the Finish Line Checkpoint or in the area immediately after the Finish Line Checkpoint.
RACE FINISHES:
1. The race officially ends for all contestants at the completion of the lap in which the checkered flag is displayed to the winner.
2. To be considered as having completed a lap, the rider and his machine must cross the plane of the checkered flag under the rider's own unaided ability. Towing is not allowed. Racers whose disabled vehicles are towed back to the pit area by staff or otherwise, for any reason, are not eligible to return to the competition. Any laps earned by a racer that returns to competition after receiving a tow back to the pit area will be removed. If a racer desires to repair their machine and return to the competition they must decline the offer to tow their vehicle back to the pit area. This rule does not apply to racers towed only a short distance in order to dislodge the vehicle from a track obstacle (i.e., mud pit, deep rut, ravine, etc.).
3. Riders will be scored in order of finish and laps completed. It is not necessary to complete all laps in order to be scored.
4. Results: Racers have 50 minutes to finish the race after the overall winner takes the checkered flag. It is the rider's responsibility to make sure he has all scans. Missing scans may result in a penalty. A rider may question the results within the 30-minute period following posting of the final results. After 30 minutes, awards will be given out.
5. Impound: After the race, the top three overall riders, as well as any other rider requested by an official to do so, must leave their machines at a designated impound area for post-race inspection until released by the official.
6. Protests must be in writing and comply with the AMA Amateur Competition Rule Book, Protest Procedure.
7. Penalties will be assessed at the discretion of the official based on the severity of the offense, and may include one or more of the following: position(s), lap(s), time adjustment, disqualification, suspension, loss of championship points, loss of prize money, fine and/or probation.
L. NATIONAL CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Both XC1 and XC2 classes will be recognized as separate National Class Championships. All 13 events will count towards the National Class Championship.
Ties: Ties for the class championship will be broken by the most first place finishes, then by the most second place finishes, etc., if necessary. Ties for other positions will be broken by the higher national ranking.
M. NATIONAL OVERALL NUMBER ASSIGNMENT:
Final National Overall Numbers will be assigned based on overall points earned and will be awarded to the top 20 overall first, regardless of the number of events entered, the to the remaining riders based on overall finish in at least 9 races and as many as 11. Bike Numbers 111 through 119, and 174 are reserved for visiting champions. Both XC1 and XC2 Bike Class Champions will be entitled to display the Number 1 National Number, so long as the required number plate color codes are complied with.
Ties: Ties in the top 20 National numbers will be broken down by the most first place finishes, the by the most second place finishes, etc., if necessary. Ties for remaining national numbers will be broken by the higher overall finish in the final race of the season.
