How did you get started racing?: First race in 1981 at the local county fair, at the age of 9.
How/When did you first hear about GNCC Racing?: I first heard about it in 1988 when some friends went to Blackwater. The next year, at 16 years old, I raced 4-Stroke B on the quad. I remember I got stuck for like an hour at that race!
You can call Barry Hawk "Mr. GNCC," as he is the most versatile, longest-lasting and probably most successful rider in the history of the series. The seven-time GNCC ATV Champion worked his way through the bike ranks until he became a permanent fixture on the podium, winning the 2003 GNCC title and finishing second in '05, '06 and '07. The 2008 tour was tough on Hawk, who started the season well but crashed hard in North Carolina. He missed a few rounds and then struggled to find his old pace once he came back. But Hawk is one the smartest racers on the tour, and his legendary determination still runs deep. Competitors from all different backgrounds come and go through this series, but the relentless determination of Barry Hawk is one thing that never changes.
