"Honey, I’m home!”
This race has really come into its own. It takes place in wine country in the northern end of North Carolina, and that's where the name comes from (you stomp on grapes to make wine).
Usually, this event is held in the fall when the area gets hit with rain leftovers from hurricane season, and that leads to great conditions. If it doesn't rain, the course designers tighten the track up a bit to cut down on speed in the dust. This year, the event has been moved to the summer, so expect a tighter course.
This track has very tight tight woods and not as many new lines open up here as they do on other tracks. You need a good start and zero mistakes to do well here.
For spectators, this is on of the most spectacular events on the tour. The track features a really cool water section where riders ride through a big tunnel, and spectators can hang out over top and watch. Last year a big creek jump was incorporated into the loop, too. But the most famous obstacle here is “The House,” which the afternoon bike riders ride right through!
Beyond the track, the race takes place in the Yadkin Valley, which has garnered a reputation as "Little Nappa Valley." It's wine country down there, and the area is growing fast. The Chamber of Commerce runs shuttles from the track to some of the local wineries so GNCC’ers can get a tour/taste of the area. Sounds like fun!
