The AMA East National Harescramble Championship series makes its first stop this year in Sumter, South Carolina, for Round 1 of the 13th Annual Burnt Gin Harescramble on January 22, 2012.  The SERMA club organizing this SETRA event promises a great time in the South Carolina woods and they have pulled out all the stops for this Sumter Dirt Bike Week event.

This also being the first national event of the year, it provides a great opportunity for the factory guys to come out and test their rides.  Sumter will also be the location of the first National Enduro the following weekend and we may even see some enduro riders showing up for some seat time in this terrain, since parts of the enduro loop will be included in this event.

For Northern racers, it also provides an opportunity to race on something a little less slippery than ice and snow, and also enjoy a little southern hospitality.  The race will take place in the Manchester State Forest East of Columbia, SC and will include youth and adult bike classes.

Entry fees for the weekend will be only $5 gate (a bargain), $60 pro, $40 amateur, $25 youth and there will be an $800+ cash purse for the pros.  Free camping will be available at this site for harescrambles weekend only, if you need to camp during the week, the SERMA club may be able to accommodate you.  There are plenty of hotels in the area, please refer to the SERMA website for list.  No alcohol, campfires, pitbikes or ATV's are allowed at this event.

Jason Raines will be running a Raines Riding University during the week between this race and the national enduro, it will be Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th and a free youth class for SETRA members on Friday the 20th call 864-498-4124 or visit www.rainesracing.com to sign up for either class.  Yamaha will have their 2012 YZ/WR demo rides on Saturday the 21st and the bikes will be available for Raines University students also.  SETRA will also be running 2 mini cross country events on the 21st and 22nd in case you want more seat time.  For more details contact Johnny McCoy at 803-481-5169 or email johnny_mccoy@hotmail.com, Jim Fairey at 803-356-5561 or email sermaclubprez@yahoo.com or the SERMA club website www.sermaclub.com.
