It was another great weekend of GNCC racing in Crawfordsville, IN. This year's Ironman GNCC again brought out huge crowds of both racers and spectators. The riders wore their pink proud, both on machines and body, to promote breast cancer awareness month.
This was a big weekend for Twin Air sponsored Chris Borich. The Ironman GNCC normally is the last round of the season, however, this year the rained out Loretta Lynn's round had to be rescheduled for early November. With two rounds left coming into the weekend Borich was looking to finish ahead of his closest rival, Adam McGill, to secure his 3rd consecutive XC-1 title.
As the race began it was clear that none of the XC-1 Class front runners were going to go down without a fight. Twin Air sponsored Foremost Insurance/Warnert Racing/ Can Am rider Adam McGill knew he needed to get a win to keep his championship dreams alive. He would take the lead early on and lead for several laps. A miscue on a hill climb would tie both Borich and McGill up and drop them back to fourth and fifth. It wouldn't be long before they battled their way back to the front. Taylor Kiser was holding the lead after the McGill mishap. With one lap to go it was Kiser in the lead with McGill trailing in second and Borich right behind. Borich made his move around the four mile mark on the last lap and passed both riders to take over the lead. It was a classic Borich move late in the race to take the lead and secure the win. With the win Borich would capture the GNCC XC-1 Pro Class Championship. Kiser would finish the day second and McGill would round out the podium. Twin Air's Chris Bithell would finish just off the podium in fourth position.
The final round of the season is just a few weeks away. Although the championship has been decided the final spots on the podium have not. Twin Air rider Chris Bithell and Yamaha mounted Taylor Kiser and only separated by three points. Adam McGill holds a much more comfortable twenty three point lead over third place. Can Bithell regain the third place position that he has held most of the year and make it a Twin Air clean sweep. We will have to wait and see.
