DirtWise with Shane Watts Riding schools supported racer, 16-year-old Daniel Sanders from Australia, took victory in the 200A class at Round 11 of the 2011 GNCC series. In doing so he also finished up 28th overall, and the 8th highest overall amateur class rider in the demanding 3-hour race in treacherous rocky conditions near Somerset, PA.
Sanders, son of former Australian gun Enduro racer Peter Sanders, is on a family holiday in the USA for a few weeks to visit apple orchards and compare growing techniques for their Victoria, Australia-based family business. Daniel will compete in the next GNCC in Ohio before jetting back home to continue his high school education.
Shane Watts commented, "I'm stoked for Daniel and his excellent result. I've had the pleasure of working with him a small amount in the past seeing as we conduct some of our DirtWise Riding schools in Australia at their family property. He is progressing well with his riding skill and could turn out in the future to be a real "diamond in the rough" if he continues to develop the smooth and effortless riding technique that his father was renowned for. Unfortunately we only had my clapped out 2009 KTM 200 for him to use so he really had to ride the wheels off it to score such a great result."
With one more GNCC race to go before his return to Australia, Sanders will be gunning for another class victory and a strong top 20 overall finish in the more favorable conditions he'll find at the next arace venue.
