It is necessary to clarify the Pro Rule with regard to the assignment of national numbers. As written, it is possible for three National Number 1's to be assigned in the Bike class to the following: overall points leader, XC1 class champion and XC2 class champion. This is not the intent of the rule.
Accordingly, the following modification is made to GNCC Pro Rule (M), National Overall Number Assignment:
Final National Overall Numbers will be assigned based on overall points earned and will be awarded to the top 20 overall first, regardless of the number of events entered, then to the remaining riders based on overall finish in at least 9 races and as many as 11. Provided, however, that the XC1 Class Champion will be awarded the National Overall Number 1. Bike Numbers 111 through 119, and 174 are reserved for visiting champions. Both XC1 and XC2 Bike Class Champions will be entitled to display the Number 1 National Number, so long as the required number plate color codes are complied with.
This change is consistent with the intent of the National Overall Number Assignment Rule: (1) for the Bike division, only two National Number 1's will be assigned (XC1 and XC2 class champions); (2) for the ATV division, only one National Number 1 will be assigned (XC1 class champion); and (3) the XC1 class is the premiere class.
Although GNCC Racing prefers not to make rule changes during the race season, in this case the clarification is necessary to avoid any confusion or ambiguity in national number assignments for 2012.
