Lewisburg, TN (09/10/2011) - UXC Racing's Cliff Beasley remained undefeated after coming back from the summer break and taking the U2 class win at round number nine of the 2011 GNCC series at Unadilla, while teammate Michael Swift claimed a solid second in the 4x4 Open class.
Inclement weather in the North East caused several changes to the track at Unadilla. The course was shortened to cut out some of the flooded and problem areas, making for about a six lap race in the morning classes. There was still a little mud in spots, but the track began to dry out over the course of the race, but the mud didn't matter much to Cliff Beasley as he charged off the start in the U2 class.
Beasley, who has been an unstoppable force since making his U2 class debut in 2010, kept his momentum going as he took the lead in his class and also the overall lead in the first lap. Beasley held the U2 class lead from start to finish and claimed his 28th consecutive class win, and finished in seventh overall with a time of 02:04:13.Michael Swift was looking good as he charged off the start in second in the 4x4 Open class. Swift was going for the lead but ended up crashing. Luckily, Swift was not injured and he put the hammer down and took the lead in lap two. Swift and fellow racer Bryan Buckhannon were running close for most of the race and swapped positions for the lead several times until Swift ended up with some issues after hitting a tree and falling to second. Lap traffic also came into play and held up Swift late in the race. Swift tried to retake the lead, but the issues from his earlier incident caused some handling issues and he would have to settle for a second place finish in his class. Swift's drive and determination allowed him to finish in fifth overall in the morning classes with a time of 02:02:35.
"It was a hectic weekend for us. We had to take a big detour to get to the track because of all the flooding in the area, which put us behind schedule, but Cliff took another win and I was still able to finish in second, so everything worked out ok in the end. I'm looking forward to the next round because I really like that track and I usually do well in rough conditions, so I going to be going for the win," said Swift.
Mountain Ridge in Somerset, PA will play host to round number ten of the 2011 GNCC series on September 24th, where UXC Racing's Cliff Beasley and Michael Swift will both be going for their class wins and a shot at the overall podium.
