Ballance Race Report from Rock Run

Oakland, KY (6/4/2011) - With some heavy rain showers on Friday evening, the Ballance Racing Yamaha team was anxious to see how the new track at Patton, Pa would hold up. Fortunately Saturday morning brought sunny skies and after the 10 a.m. race the 12 mile Rock Run course looked to be in great shape for its inaugural run.

As the flag went up for the XC1 class, Bill Ballance and Taylor Kiser found themselves with mid pack starts. After the first lap the top 10 was only separated by 15 seconds with Taylor in fifth and Bill in seventh. It looked as if it was going to be a knock down drag out battle for the win, but as Bill came through the finish line on the second lap the engine let go and the bad luck that has plagued him all year struck again.  "It was one of those days when you feel like you just got it and I was just hanging out waiting for the last lap to make my move, but I guess it just wasn't in the cards, that's racing" said Bill.

Taylor had made his way up to the front but then rear brake issues and a bent spindle slowed his charge "We have been working hard and trying to get back to the racing we are use to and I was felling good but then the brakes went and I bent the front end so I just had to do the best I could with it and today that was third" stated Taylor.

When the flag went up on the XC2 class Walker Fowler didn't get a good jump but made some good moves in the first two corners to come out in second behind Dustin Canipe. He stayed there until the last couple of corners before the finish line on the first lap and was able to use an outside line to make the pass. When he crossed the finish line on the first lap, he was in the first place overall position. He never looked back and was dead set to do what few have done before and take the overall from the second line. "Dustin was putting up a good pace on the first lap but then he bobbled a bit before the finish line and I was able to get by. I just started to really push and all of sudden I found myself on the end of this big freight train of pro's and got the pit board that I was in the overall so I just tried to play it smart and it all just worked out. I don't know what to say! This is something I really wanted to do and now that I have done it, it just doesn't seem real. It's awesome!" stated Walker.

The Ballance Racing Yamaha team will be spending the next couple weeks preparing for the riding school at the Ballance facility on June 18 and 19. Spots are still available so go to Ballanceracing.net for details. They will also be instructing the GNCC University the few days before the Snow Shoe GNCC. Go to gnccracing.com for details.
