Today we talked to Jimmy Woodford, the esteemed mechanic of XC1 Pro Rider Jimmy Jarrett. Woodford talks the life of a mechanic on the GNCC/OMA route including prep on the new Honda ride, getting ready for what could be a mudder of a weekend at Loretta Lynn's and what it takes to keep a bike race-ready.
Jimmy, how are you doing today?
I'm good! I'm just at work right now.
Considering how the weather has been all over the East Coast lately, do you think we're looking at another mudder at Loretta's this weekend?
It's looking that way. The other day we definitely got some bad weather. It definitely looks like it could be another mudder.
After a few consecutive dry races, are you going to have to make a lot of changes to get ready for a mud race?
We won't have to make many changes, but tire selection changes. We'll put some foam in the crevices were mud can collect to get the weight down. We run Outer Wears on the air filter and we're also going to test some new radiator covers this weekend. And then sometimes we run hand guard extensions depending on how the weather is.
