GNCC Racers Borich, Mullins and Forsberg Take AMA Athlete of the Year Honors

Morgantown, WV (Nov 22, 2010) - Some of the top Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series riders received the highest honors at the weekend's AMA Racing Championship Banquet in Las Vegas, presented by World of Powersports. Two-time GNCC ATV Champion Chris Borich was presented the AMA Racing ATV Athlete of the Year Award after dominating the 2010 GNCC campaign with 11 wins in 13 rounds; Charlie Mullins collected the AMA Racing Athlete of the Year Award after collecting second overall in the GNCC bike chase behind Josh Strang and taking the AMA National Enduro Championship; and Maria Forsberg claimed Female Rider of the Year honors after collecting the GNCC women's title and also winning 11 of 13 rounds.

"This is kind of a dream come true," Mullins said. "I never expected to win an award like this. It's a great honor, and I can't thank everybody enough. It's really special for me to win this."

In addition to the Athlete and Rider of the Year honors for Borich, Mullins and Forsberg, GNCC class champions from around the country were presented AMA number-one plates for their 2010 accomplishments. The banquet took place at Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa, with GNCC racers honored alongside every form of AMA Racing, including motocross, flat track racing, land speed record attempts, enduro and hare scrambles.

At about the same time Mullins headed to the stage to receive his AMA Racing Award, another GNCC XC1 pro bike competitor, Cory Buttrick, was competing in the Japan National Cross Country (JNCC) series' finale in Hiroshima, Japan. Buttrick went on to win the race, completing an amazing weekend for some of the top stars of GNCC Racing.

GNCC racers will receive their next set of accolades at the annual GNCC Racing Series Banquets on December 10 (ATV) and 11 (bike), 2010, at Lakeview Resort in Morgantown, WV. For more information on the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series, visit www.gnccracing.com
