Jarrett Takes First Win of the GNCC Season at Thrilling Can-Am Unadilla Race

New Berlin, NY (September 13, 2010) -- After a more than two month break from the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series, the GEICO/JG Off Road Monster Energy Kawasaki team returned to wage war on the Can-Am Unadilla GNCC in New Berlin, New York on September 12. Jimmy Jarrett battled back and forth for 8 laps with
FMF/KTM's Nate Kanney to take his first GNCC win of the 2010 season. Scott Watkins battled for third and Ashley Crouch, fifth.

Jarrett's win caps off a winning weekend for the GEICO/JG Off Road Team as Geoff Aaron took second in the Washington Endurocross.

A light sprinkle didn't affect the favored Unadilla track, and in the AM race, Ashley Crouch had a good start to settle in fourth going into the woods. Crouch followed Samantha Steiner but was held up for a few minutes after a fall on one of the rocky hills.   Crouch took a few minutes to get going but held on to a fifth place finish.

"My race went pretty good," Crouch said. "After my fall, it took a few minutes to get back up and going but other than that I had a good race. I think Unadilla is my favorite track so far."

In the PM race, the story of the day was Jarrett's incredible win after a season beset with a shoulder injury and then a run-in with a car while road-biking.

"My race went well right from the start," Jarrett said. "I was third off the line and within a mile I was leading. I lead for a few laps, setting a comfortable pace until Kanney caught me and then the battle began. We would swap positions a few times a lap and it was definitely going to come down to the end. He made a mistake and lost the front end with about a half a lap to go and that was my chance to sprint to the end and I was able to hold him off for the win."

Watkins finished with a solid third place after starting the race in a freight train with FMF/KTM's Kailub Russell and Monster Energy FAR Husqvarna's Jason Thomas and Jesse Robinson. Russell and Thomas pulled away by the third lap and Watkins kept the pace up to finish more than two minutes in front of his next defender, FMF/KTM's Steward Baylor Jr.

"I had a good start with a good battle," Watkins said. "We were right up there with the top overall riders in a freight train and then I clipped a tree. I smashed my stuff up and rang myself kind of silly. I was down 30 seconds or so, then I hit another tree and then things went from bad to worse, but I was still in third. I felt strong with those guys but it was too much of a task to catch up to them. I finished third and the bike held up well for the amount of crashing I did."
