GNCC Competition Bulletin 2010-5: 4X4 Limited Changes
April 16, 2010After 4 events in the season, it is apparent that further modification to the 4x4 Limited class is required. The problem is with the stock rear trailing arms of some of these machines, which have limited race-durability and are expensive to replace.
Accordingly, commencing with the next round, riders will be allowed to change the rear trailing arm. The use of reservoirs on the shocks is still prohibited. Below is how the new rule will read:
The following limited items cannot be changed or added:
Internal or external motor components; exhaust system; clutch; steering stem; steering stabilizer; reservoirs; fuel tank; quick fuel system; or tire balls. Motor and power output must remain as the factory intended. Front/rear shocks, front/rear springs, and rear trailing arms can be changed; reservoirs cannot be added. No other suspension or steering components may be changed.
This change is consistent with the purpose and intent of the limited class - to permit limited modifications enabling a utility machine to be race-worthy, but disallowing modifications that enhance performance or are cost prohibitive. In this case, the replacement cost is less than the repair cost.
Although GNCC Racing prefers not to make rule changes during the race season, in this case the cost benefits of allowing the modification are significant. Again, GNCC encourages racers to submit rule changes during the public comment period in December and at the Riders Meetings held annually at the GNCC Awards Banquets.
