GNCC Round #10 Race Report
September 12, 2009 - Unadilla - New Berlin, NY
After a long break and a busy schedule I was eager to get back underway although I was unsure of how I would perform. I was not able to train or ride as much as I would have liked for several reasons but being a competitor and having the support of my wife and sponsors I embraced my situation and looked forward to tackling the Unadilla track. I took some time to walk the track and get familiar with the conditions which seemed to be just about perfect.
The morning of the race I felt calm and when it was time to head to the line I focused on getting a good start and pushing as hard as I could for the entire race. My GT Thunder machine came to life quickly and I entered the woods in third. The pace that was set was comfortable and I focused on hitting all my lines and not making any mistakes. I was following the leader when I crashed in the railroad bed whoop section. I quickly got myself and my quad up right and set out on a mission to catch the leaders.
I was comfortable on the MX track where I pushed extensively to make up as much ground as possible. With the conditions deteriorating my GT Thunder HLS suspension really came through for me as I was able to make up the ground I had lost and caught the front runners to take over the lead. With the lapped traffic we ran into bottlenecks which opened the door for fellow racers to catch us which made it a great race to the finish line. I was able to hold off Josh Kirkland in the last miles of the race for my seventh win of the season.
This win is extra special to me as I was not able to put as much preparation in as I would have hoped to over the break. I am very happy with my setup and my crew and I cannot wait until we head to Yadkinville! I cannot thank my wife Annie enough for her support she is the best, my fans and I could not be where I am without my sponsors: GT Thunder, HLS Suspension, HMF, ITP, Fly Racing, PowerMadd, Flexx, HiPer, Tire Balls, JB Racing, Precision, Albright Motorsports, XCountry Photos, and State 8.
