Welcome to Quick Fill. Things are beginning to quiet down a bit.
Summer time presents a sort of second off-season in GNCC Racing, where riders get to reset themselves, learn from what did and didn't work during the first nine races, and try to improve. Some will race, some will take a break, some will just try to save their money so they can join us for the final four rounds of racing.
This year we're holding the big show the weekend AFTER Thanksgiving, that's December 4th and 5th, and we're moving back to Lakeview Resort in Morgantown, West Virginia, that was the site of our banquet from 2002 through 2005. Lakeview is moving us into a totally different building this time so there should be a lot more room to move (we outgrew the old setup) and West Virginia should cut back on the drive time for you southerners by a good two hours. And you get your Thanksgiving back. We hope you like the change.
So what other races are GNCCers participating in during the summer? For one, the EnduroCross Series begins next weekend in Las Vegas, and we hear, for one, that Husqvarna star Glenn Kearney is going to give the event a shot. EnduroCross is a pretty specialized deal and it doesn't always lend it self to GNCC skills, just as EnduroCross kings don't come over and dominate GNCC-except for that David Knight guy, who can win at just about everything. We'll see how GK does next weekend, and you can expect to hear a few other names showing up by race time, I bet.
Here's a report on an ATV race in the Iowa Hare Scramble Series, and the story mentions that quite a few GNCC racers have come out to race that tour while we're on summer break. Click here to read about it.
On the other hand, GNCC fast boys Cory Buttrick, Walker Fowler and Adam McGill showed up at a unique race in Ohio to try to win some loot. Cory B won all of the bike disciplines to take the bike money, and "McGurt" held off Walker to take the ATV money. Cory B's mom sent us this note about it:
Hi Jason,
Hope all is well with you. We are keeping busy of course even though it is summer break. There is always a race somewhere to go to and Cory doesn't let the bikes sit still for long.
Last weekend Fast Traxx here in Nelsonville hosted a busy weekend of racing with a $4000 pro purse available to any pro on a Quad or Bike that could when the Open A Class in the
Grand Prix Race, Supercross Race and Motocross Race. Cory B., Walker and McGill walked away with a lot of cash for their efforts. You had to win all 3 events to take the bonus money and Cory won all three on the 450 and Adam won all three after battling hard with Walker in all events. Pretty good results for some old GNCC boys!
The money definitely will help out with the ISDE trip and that was what kept Cory going!
Have a good summer and stay safe! Walker and Cory are trying their hand at golfing at the present time. Walker is here for the week and the boys have kept me awake giggling like girls all hours of the night!
Valorie Buttrick
I talked to Walker's dad today, and he said the GP race between he and Adam was epic. When they got done with the GP, they basically fell off their ATVs huffing and puffing, and they both said to each other that they had nothing left. That's what you like to hear at the end of a race, just two guys giving it their all.
Those kids have always had fun, but you have to think it's a little weird now that Walker is a full-on ATV guy only, where as he used to always race with Buttrick on bikes (and he's leading the points in ATV College A over the very capable Jamie Bithell, so things are going well).
We've also got 2010 models trickling in. I think we forgot to mention a few weeks ago that Suzuki is resurrecting the RM-X line for the first time in well over a decade with the RM-X450. Click here for the scoop.
Sounds like a Strang and Mullins-inspired machine there.
And David Knight's still pretty much unknown race plans continue to unfold, as we spotted this story on him gathering some more supporting his race comeback. A Kawasaki World Superbike team is going to help him tune his KX! Click here.
What to do what to do this weekend if you're a GNCC fan? Bike folks can check out SPEED's Saturday night coverage of round seven of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship from Millville, Minnesota-show starts at 11:30 p.m. EST on Saturday night.
ATV fans might just want to trek up to Pleasure Valley Raceway outside of Johnstown, (East of Pittsburgh) as the AMA Pro ATV MX Championship will compete there. This year's ATV MX battle is one for the ages, as Chad Wienen and Dustin Wimmer exchange shots each weekend in one crazy roller coaster of a season. Go to www.atvmotocross.com for info on the race-and our own voice of GNCC Racing, Rodney Tomblin, will be on hand to host Track Smack Live at 6 p.m. EST from Pleasure Valley. Want to hear Rodney and Double D Dave Smith put the questions to Wimmer and Wienen? Listen in.
And don't forget Racer TV's coverage of the GNCC Series on Versus: Mountain Ridge bikes are coming on Saturday at 2 p.m. EST-a great race between Strang and Mullins there.
Finally, more baby news this week: Five-time GNCC Champion Rodney Smith and his wife Lori have a new baby girl, Lily Hannah Smith! Congrats, Rodney and Lori!
That's it for Quick Fill. Enjoy the free time while you have it!
